I’m surprised that I don’t see more animated infographics than I do. Animation is a great way to express facts, concepts and statistics in a way that has impact and clarity. Here, I took some population statistics from the Office for National Statistics and a news report on housing to express the difference between supply and demand. Any single row of this diagram could be used as a static image to show that while the UK population increases by about 15 people every 15 minutes, only 4 new homes, accommodating an average of ten people, begin construction – but the animated element brings it home more effectively.
Figures are approximate, of course.
